7 Last-Minute Ramadan DIYs You Need To Make Today (low cost, kid-friendly + more)

Hey girl hey. And boy.

Can you believe that Ramadan is going to be in 3 days ALREADY?! I don’t even know how time flew by this quick but I am definitely hyped. Now that yearly Ramadan shops are closed, Amazon decor will be delivered a week after Ramadan ends and money is tighter than ever before, it is no way to stop you from decorating your home for Ramadan 2020. With these super easy DIYs, you’ll be able to decorate your home with supplies you already have at home or in your local dollar store.

dav

fake flowers, coloured paper, two frames, two terrariums, pipe cleaners, gluestick, four small candle lights, fairy lights and poster boards cost me around $20

I’ll be making a Ramadan self improvement post this Friday and then I’ll talk a bit about what Ramadan is about but my quick intro from 2018 does the job:

Ramadan is the ninth and holiest month in the Islamic calendar. In this month, we Muslims fast (not eat or drink) from sunrise to sunset for the sake of Allah (God) and increase our offering of prayers, Quran recitation, good deeds, and charity. The purpose of fasting is to redirect our hearts away from the distractions around us and to cleanse the soul. Ramadan also teaches us self-discipline, self-control, sacrifice and empathy for those who are less fortunate. – Bayance 2018

Because I’m going to be at home all of Ramadan this year, I went ALL out in making sure I decorated the house so hopefully this is an improvement from last year’s DIY post. 😂 I hope you enjoy this post and feel free to change up the DIYs to your liking. Without further ado, let’s get starteddd.

  1. Crescent + Star Aesthetic Hanging

dav

What You Need:

  • Cardboard (I used a Tide package)
  • Coloured paper or paint
  • Pipecleaners
  • Fake flowers
  • Fairy lights
  • Tape and glue
  • Embroidery thread or string

#1 – Sketch out a crescent and star onto a piece of cardboard and cut it out

dav

#2 – Paint this cardboard or tape and trim coloured paper to the cardboard cut-out with any colour of your choice (I used yellow)

#3 – Outline the shape with pipecleaners and tape it to the edges (I used gold glitter ones)

mde

we love when hair gets stuck in tape -_-

#4 – Tape or hot/super glue flowers onto the edges of the crescent along with taping the fairy lights around the two shapes.

mde

#5 – Hang it using embroidery thread (we hung it on the stairs and later moved it to the curtains) and use tape behind the shapes to keep them in place on the wall.

mde

And ta-da!! I personally loved this decor the most and the flowers + fairy lights are a whole aesthetic. We took inspiration from the following images so feel free to change this DIY up to your liking and supplies:

2. Mosque Timing Decor

mde

What You Need

  • Cardboard
  • Pipecleaners
  • Flowers (optional)
  • Coloured paper or paint
  • Tape
  • Prayer times schedule

#1 – Sketch out a mosque silhouette onto a piece of cardboard and cut it out

dav

#2 – Paint the cut-out or glue coloured paper to make it nay colour of you choice

mde

#3 – Add a few pipeliners and flowers or whatever decor you would like

#4 – Tape the prayer time schedule to the back of the mosque.

mde

#5 – Tape it to the wall.

mde

In the previous years, we used to just have the prayer schedule just on its own but now I thought we could glam it up with a simple craft.

3. Lantern Tassel Hangings

dav

What You Need

  • Construction paper
  • Embroidery thread or string
  • Glue
  • This template (download here)

#1 – Follow this tutorial up until 0:57

What I basically did was outline the template onto coloured sheets and alternated colours to make 8 in total. I folded each shape in half and taped it to the next half until I came to the end where I added in my tassel. The youtube channel does link to a tassel tutorial but what I did was wrap embroidery thread around a piece of cardboard 15 times and then tied a different string right below the loop. Through the loop, I added a longer piece of thread and closed off the two shapes to put it in place. Finally, I hung it onto the hooks in my dining room lights but you can use any hook you have. I’m pretty bad at explaining so watch the video!! 😂

4. Dollar Tree Terrarium Lights

dav

When my brother gave me ten minutes to get anything from Dollar Tree for Ramadan DIY’s, I started losing my mind towards the end. 😂 I got two plastic terrariums (didn’t even know that word before), two plastic succulents, a pair of LED candle lights and called it a day. 😂

What You Need:

  • terrarium
  • fake flower head
  • coloured paper
  • LED tiny flame

#1 – Cut two pieces of coloured paper into many small square pieces to resemble grass or water

#2 – Add the shreds into a terrarium and place a candle head inside

#3 – Add the fake flour head

At first, I hung it but my mom said it would look better stationary and with just a flower head. I have no idea why I decided to be super random but blame it on my 10 minutes in Dollar Tree frantically looking in the decor section. 😂

Other super simple ideas:

1. A paper lantern banner

2. A pillars of faith tree and a pillars of Islam hand

3. A frame with a duaa (supplication) or hadith

And of course, no DIY post that Bayance does goes without its failures:

  • failed paper lantern

mde

  • hair getting stuck in tape

mde

  • banner getting tangled up because Bay lost a few brain cells that morning trying to understand Biology class

mde

But I assure you that YOU can definitely glam up your home for Ramadan despite all these failures. These crafts are so easy that even my younger siblings did half the work. You’re going to spend most, if not all, of Ramadan at home so get decorating right now and spread those Ramadan vibes in every corner of your home.

Anddd that’s all for today.

Lol, isn’t it funny that Lent ended a week ago and Ramadan is starting soon;) I always say that Lent is like the knockoff version of Ramadan because Lent is MUCH easier. You don’t have to fast all day(some Catholics do) but instead, you give up something. I gave up dairy and meat for lent(which was hard) but, I couldn’t imagine fasting for the day. I’m amazed that you can do that. Hahaha, I would pig out at exactly sundown;) Anyways, Good luck with Ramadan and I hope that it’s a great reflective period for you 😉

Oooh that’s so cool! Woahhh I’m amazed at you. For starters, lent is 40 days instead of 30 and we give up food during the day but we can eat anything during the night so I honestly don’t even know about giving up meat and ice cream at night D: But I love how similar the goals are and thank you so much!! ❤ This comment means a lot ❤

I liked that you put some information about Ramadan at the beginning of your post because I honestly never exactly knew what it was! These decorations are so creative. I honestly couldn’t fast for a whole day, it would be so hard!!

Hey Bay! I love all the DIYs creations you’ve shown on here 💖 This gift be a really crazy question, but what is Ramadan? I’ve hard it a lot lately and I’m curious abut what it is, but loved reading this post! xx (your British queen is back 😉)

The british queen is backkk!! Tysmm!! I’ve mentioned a little bit about it at the beginning but it’s basically a month where Muslims around the world fast (as in not eat and drink from sunrise to sunset as well as try to engage in good deeds) for self purification, self betterment, empathy for the less fortunate, establish closeness to God and a month to create good habits for the rest of the year. I hope that explained it and no question is a crazy question!! ❤ Also I need to binge those short stories of yours asap but I need to get tissues ready. Tysm for reading!

Haha I am!! 💕 Wow that actually sounds really detoxing and good! Thanks for explaining it so well, that really helped 😊 Okay my first questions are: Does it get easier as time goes on? Do you sleep in the day and work at night? Did you have to it from a young age? Ahh take your time Bay, t’s totally fine 💗Just look out for my new post of the Voting that I will be posting ASAP!! 💕 Haha, I recommend not reading unless Kleenex are very, very close!!

        Tysm for your questions!!
Does it get easier as time goes on?

YES. Your body adapts to it and it rarely causes a headache or hunger but it depends from person to person. We have the predawn meal to prevent hunger throughout the day and you tend to just forget the desire to eat.

Do you sleep in the day and work at night?
My sleep schedule definitely changed but what I do is sleep after night prayer so around 12 and then wake up at 4 before dawn and today I stayed awake after dawn but I usually crash around 9 or 10 AM and sleep til 12-1 PM before the next prayer. So in total, I’ll still get a good 7-9 hours of sleep but it’s waking up for a couple hours in between. Some people just wake up at dawn to pray and go back to sleep so they’ll wake up earlier. And some people just have an afternoon nap.

Did you have to it from a young age?
No it just becomes mandatory once you hit puberty. Before that, you’re not accountable for anything but any good you do is accounted for. So kids usually practise when they’re about 7.

Yesss I’ll be on the lookout – wait hold up you already posted it I’ll check it out rnn!!

Of course Bay!! Thank you so much for openly answering them 💖 I completely understand that, your body and mind surely adapt to the circumstances! That’s good you don’t get headaches, they’re the literal worst 😔 That’s really interesting, that is one heck of a sleep schedule 😂 As long as you’re getting at least 7 hours of sleep that’s really good 💗 That’s really interesting that before puberty your not accountable, and totally understandable! I’d be starving if I did that at 7 😂 Yay! Thanks Bay replying to all your wonderful comments now 💗
