Exam Season // Expectations VS Reality

Hey girl hey. And boy.

Exams are finally over so I’m back! It was pretty hectic to keep up with all the last assignments but we got through it! This is the first time I write exams in this school and I thought of writing an exam tips post when I realized I didn’t make the best example when studying. 😂 So instead, I thought why not bring up an expectation vs reality post because exams didn’t go as what I had in my head. First Day Of School ~ In Your Head VS Reality

And let’s get starteddd.

1. Exam Preparation

Although I’m a huge procrastinator, I thought that that exams would be an exception to start prepping weeks in advance. Hey, don’t get me wrong – I studied one week in advance but most of my revising happened a day before. Please don’t do this if you actually struggle with the subject and reach out to teachers in advance if you have any questions. But my semester was pretty light so I have an excuse. 😂

2. Stress

On the contrary, I thought there would be so much pressure and that everyone would be so tense. It may be because I’m not a senior yet and the exams aren’t as important until then but it really didn’t register in my head until a few days earlier. It wasn’t as bad as I thought and I wasn’t shaking out of my skin nervous, you know?

3. Aesthetic Notes

So I just read this blog post by Gianna from Gianna & Gemini on how she takes aesthetic notes and let’s just say that’s not how my studying went at. all. This isn’t to mention how my writing on the exam was a complete disaster because I had to write so much so I gave up on the aesthetic.

Creds to Gianna for the left picture!! Guys it got to the point that geography and computer systems were on the same page disorganized.

4. Sleep

Okay so you know how you’re supposed to be sleeping early and all organized for the next day? Yeah no. It’s not that I stayed up until 3 panicking about the exam but I didn’t go to sleep very early either. I found it was harder to sleep during exams because that’s when it really sinks in. Sometimes, I’d watch Say Yes To The Dress and procrastinate whereas other times I’d try to sleep and then panic because I realized this is all going to end some day and that we’re trapped in this huge universe and the idea of eternity and rhedbnejkwhbeurfyg. So there’s my mind before exams for you.

5. Study Buddies

I always thought it was so cute and productive to have study sessions with friends but in reality, hardly any of my friends had any classes with me and the one person that did have all their classes with me was someone I don’t really get along with. So really, you’re on your owwwn. No just kidding, you all probably have friends in your classes but it’s fine.

6. Everyone Struggling Together

When I said I wasn’t stressed a few days prior, you don’t expect me to sit there with 15 pages ahead of me and a time limit and just completely feel like “I got this” on exam day. Fast forward to actual exam day, I thought everyone was in this together and would exchange dreadful looks and take super long on the exam but really, everyone leaves super early and you’re one of the only ones left there because you can’t get through question 1.

I’m actually pretty strong when it comes to academics but I’m that person who asks for extra paper because half a page is not enough to express all my opinions. 😂 And in my geo test, everyone else knew what they were doing when it came to interpreting elevation and I was there like psst teacher why are there numbers everywhere? Geography was my one of my favourite subjects but I absolutely hate the physical map unit like thank you next. 😭 And my grades are doing well alhamdulillah but when it comes to long provincial tests and exams, I’m always the only one who takes years writing a novel for a multiple choice question (okay I’m not that overachieving but still).

7. Celebration

Finally, I expected this whole celebration to happen where classes reunite and talk about their answers and there would be lots of whoop whoops in the main entrance but in reality, everyone just waits for their parents or ride and go on their phones in the meantime. And if you do find someone in your class, your convos just go like “hey how was the test?! I’m pretty sure I got a 0.” and they’re like “nah it wasn’t hard.” like mmm I was joking but you better have low expectations with me. 😭 Or maybe it’s because everyone in my class probably had a meetup without me. I’m fine. 😂

Anddd that’s all for today. So basically high school musical is a lie. Overall, exams weren’t too hard but some took longer than others. It may have been my light semester so let’s hope next semester isn’t going to kill me. Hopefully by then, I’ll actually have exam tips. 😂

Do you have exams? How were they?!

And if you’re younger, what are your expectations for them?

Hope you all had a great January!! I’ll see you in my next post.

OH MY GOSH YES!!!! I totally ralate to this! In geography I am actually quite good but when it comes to seeing too many numbers in one place that isn’t maths my mind goes into overdrive! Plus I am really bad at general knowledge of countries.
Don’t be mad I thought Canada was in Europe! I wasn’t corrected until like a few years ago!

EXACTLY!!!! Same it’s one of my strongest but like maps? It’s not math? Oh no. Hahaha omg. I knew germany was in europe but for some reason I imagined it taking up all of africa?! Yeah, I have a great mental map.

Omg this was sooooooooo relatable omg!!!! I have actually thought of studying with friends but I always imagined maybe there’s a reason why not many people do it lol 😛
I don’t go to bed at 3 am but I sleep like 7 hours during exam season and it’s not even worth it cause I procrastinate and then I lose sleep, argh!
And what year are you in? I’m in 11th grade
